Ask a child what's stopping them from keeping up in school today, and increasingly the answer isn't a missing textbook — it's a missing screen. Homework portals, research assignments, even basic typing practice now assume a device that many families simply don't have.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to change that for one community learning center this fall. We equipped the center with 25 tablets, preloaded with reading apps, math practice tools, and offline-friendly educational content so students could keep learning even without a reliable internet connection.
For most of the children who walked in that first week, it was the first time they'd ever held a tablet of their own to learn on. Volunteers ran supervised sessions after school, helping kids navigate their first login, their first typed sentence, their first solved equation on a touchscreen.
Teachers at the center have already noticed the shift — students arriving early to get extra practice time, kids helping each other troubleshoot, a genuine excitement around homework that wasn't there before. Digital literacy isn't a luxury anymore; it's a basic building block for everything that comes after school.
This is just one center. We're actively fundraising to bring the same setup — devices, training, and ongoing support — to more communities in the year ahead.
